I Am Becoming An Alexa Toolbar Addict! Help!

Something fearful happened during some recent excursions I had on the internet, and it involved Alexa. You know, Alexa, the subsidiary of Amazon that maintains data on each site’s traffic volume?

Well, I downloaded the toolbar a while back and I was unsure of what the benefit would be to me.

A few weeks past. One day I had decided I was going to look for a CPM program for one of my blogs. (Yes, I intended on inflicting those painful popups on my unsuspecting traffic.)

After spending a great deal of time in various forums and blogs, I felt I had a nice list. But, how could I determine how successful some of these programs were?

My strategy was that I was going to use the toolbar’s help. I narrowed my list down to two good choices. One Advertiser had an Alexa Rank of 50,829 and the other a rank of 197,507.

Now, what could I assume from this comparison? Could I assume that one was more popular than the other? Could I assume that one had more CPM inventory to place on my site? Could I assume that one had more of an online reputation, perhaps even older than the other?

In the end, I chose the site with the Alexa Rank of 50k. Which, by the way, was this:

That seemed to work well and I was ready for the next challenge. I wanted to find the most popular blogging communities. Then, I wanted to find the most popular RSS Aggregators and RSS Directories. 

And finally, I wanted to track my own Alexa Rank! Was I blogging into a void or was I making a difference?

Alexa is far from perfect, but there has not been another system developed that provides webmasters/bloggers/internet marketers a method to track traffic rank. Alexa also tracks your sites page views, bounce rate, percentage of search engine searches, etc.

But, remember this can only be calculated from those who are visiting your site with the Alexa toolbar downloaded.

If you want to know more about Alexa, you have come to the right place. If you have some time, read some of the articles previously featured on Source Blogger. You won’t find another blog with this much content on Alexa! (Other than Alexa’s own blog, of course!)
